Mr. Hodgdon is happily married with four children and living in the city of Kaufman.  They have been living in the city for over 7 years and have made many friends in the area.  Developing the CERT program was a natural part in helping the community for Mr. Hodgdon, who has a long history of working with various non-profits, including Rockwall Helping Hands and their Salvation Army Kettle Drives.

Do to the fact that Mr. Hodgdon has been in positions of manager with several companies and has run his own business and other non-profits, he brings a unique understanding of how non-profits operate, how they should be operated to allow for the most efficient use of their resources and how to work with their volunteer resources.

Mr. Hodgdon is presently working with other members of the Board of Directors to further advance the CERT program within Kaufman County.  He is determined to make this one of the best programs around.  Some of the new portions of the program include adding new operations that will be used to traing School Emergency Response Teams (SERT) and Teen CERT units.  He is also working to incorporate and insure proper communition operations for the CERT program by utilizing amateur radio operators, which he is one.

"In this day and age, it is very easy to obtain your amateur (ham) radio license.  In fact in the early part of 2007, the FCC removed all requirements to learn Morse Code in order to advance in your amateur licenses.  I had alway been interested in ham radio, but never pursued it because of the Code requirement.  I am now happy to have my license and look forward to upgrading it as soon as possible", Chris Hodgdon KE5IGO

When asked why develop a CERT program, Mr. Hodgdon replied "I felt a need for a program to be inplace to help the citizens in our county, but even more important, I wanted a program that was designed to assist families and children when a disaster strikes.  By being able to help prepare people before a disaster happens, we can help minimize the impact after it does."
