Kaufman County CERT is now Kaufman County
For Immediate Public Release Kaufman County CERT along with it's parent organization Southern Search & Rescue, Inc. have submitted it's paper work to the Secretary of State in Austin, Texas to obtain an official Certificate of Incorporation as a Non-Profit Corporation. On April 29th, 2005, the Articles of Incorporation were stamped by the Secretary of State and we are now officially Kaufman County CERT, Inc. (Charter/File # 800487717).
By obtaining our Certificate of Incorporation, we will be able to provide a little more legal protection for our members as they help the cizitens of Kaufman County and the surrounding areas in times of need. We have also obtained our IRS EIN (Employer ID Number) and are waiting for the return of our application for exemption from of taxes in Texas. Once we have obtained this exemption, we will be placing a copy here on our site to be viewed by those that wish to see it.
Currently, Southern Search & Rescue, Inc., which is a registered 501(c)3 charity, is seeking the $500.00 in funds that are needed to obtain it's Group Exemption Letter (GEL). Once the GEL has been obtained from the IRS, any organization, division or sub-division formed by Southern Search & Rescue, Inc. or any organization that is chartered under Southern Search & Rescue, Inc. will be able to claim the same tax exemption.
Even though Kaufman County CERT, Inc. does not have an IRS issued exemption, the fact that we are new and that currently, we will most likely not raise more than $25,000 per year, we are not required to received the exemption. But, to keep everyone at easy, most current donations will be made through Southern Search & Rescue, Inc. with 100% of the donations for Kaufman County CERT, Inc. going to them.
Right now, Kaufman County CERT is seeking donations of all types. The biggest item that we need is physical money. This will allow us to purchase equipment for training and operations, allow us to pay for expenses as they come in, allow us to provide some funds back to the community during a disaster and much more. We also have a wish list. Items contained on this wish list range from items to be used in our classes to items that we need to store for future use. Find out how you, your business, church, school, family or friends can help us to help others. The goal of any CERT program is to provide the community with a resource to help. So, by helping us you in turn me be helping yourself.
We will keep our news section posted with new information about our corporate status and more. |
